Subject: Americans Against Nationalized Education
Dear [Your Congressman/Senator Inserted Here]
We ask the United States House of Representatives through the Appropriations process of FY 2014 including the Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education Appropriations to prohibit continued funding for programs that have national standards, national curriculum, national assessments, national teachers’ evaluations, and national databases as their objectives also known as Common Core Standards.
We ask the House of Representatives to ensure the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) (20 U.S.C. § 1232g; 34 CFR Part 99) as a Federal law that protects the privacy of student education records is kept in context as the true intent of this law by prohibiting longitudinal data systems to track children without parental permission and confirmation. We ask that the United States Congress ensure the privacy of students and parents so as to allow parents to opt out of such programs set up to gather information on above.
We ask the United States Congress to prohibit the Department of Education to extend the legal parameters as laid out in the Department of Education Organization Act of 1979, which clearly declares that the Department cannot exercise "any direction, supervision, or control over the curriculum … or over the selection or content of library resources, textbooks, or other instructional materials."
